Margery S, Davidson does more than simply look sweet upon the seat of her bicycle built for two. She wins new business for her Aberdeen-based companies, Margery S. Davidson, CPA and Davidson's Business Development Team. She and her husband, James Nelson, ride a tandem bicycle with a group of fellow outdoor enthusiasts, traveling over 30 mikes in week nights and 60 miles on weekends. "I've gotten several clients out of that," Davidson explains.
Whether on a bike or in a boardroom, Davidson has come to appreciate the power of networking. After she opened Davidson's Bookkeeping and Tax Service in 1983, she hunkered down for several years, building the business and studying for the CPA exam. "We got so busy working we didn't get out with people," says Davidson. "It took me 10 years to figure out I was only seeing other clients." No more. She is a past president of the Matawan/Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and the Matawan/Aberdeen Kiwanis, a volunteer with the Woman's Center of Monmouth County and a member of the New Jersey Association of Woman Business Owners which, in last April named her its Business Woman of the Year, largely due to her extensive community involvement.
Her business is growing and last year she spun off the consulting part of her practice to from Davidson's Business Development Team. It conducts workshops and seminars for smaller businesses on ways to organize and grow their companies and consult one-on-one with larger businesses. Davidson believes the Team will "be national" within three years.
Davidson has worked from the home her entire career. Today her husband works full-time in the tax department and her daughters, Stephanie Geisel and Linette Shoenback are also employees.
